About Alia Heise, the Doula

I have been married since 1999 and I have three children. My first was was delivered in a medicated birth in 2001. My second was a natural hospital birth in 2004. For the third we had a planned, midwife assisted, unmedicated homebirth. I have lived in the Finger Lakes Area since August 2005. Having been raised in Boulder, Colorado, I have a somewhat natural approach to parenting, including some attachment parenting practices, but I have learned to respect all families birthing philosophies and parenting styles. One size never fits all. I truly discovered my passion for helping mothers and babies when I assisted a mother in need during her birth in 2000, a year before my first child was born. I started helping other mothers professionally in 2004 as a breastfeeding counselor. I am a CLC (certified lactation counselor) as well as a CPD(DONA) which is a certified postpartum doula through DONA. Lastly, I am trained as a DONA birth doula and I am in the midst of completing my certification. My company, Nurturing the Mother Doula Care serves the area of Geneva New York and surrounding areas including but not limited to Canandaguia and Rochester.

My experience as a mother and a professional includes: homebirth, hospital transfer during homebirth, hospital birth, epidurals, c-sections, VBAC, breastfeeding, twins, breastfeeding twins, formula feeding, pumping, co-sleeping, baby wearing, cloth diapering, elimination communication, Happiest Baby on the Block sleep methods and more.
